Most of these projects start the same way. Someone gets a quote to run utility power a few hundred feet, or several thousand, and the number is larger than expected. Solar Power for Gates and Remote Access Equipment

A gate at the end of a driveway, a camera at the far corner of a parcel, a keypad at a yard entrance. These sit exactly where power is hardest to run and use very little of it once they have it, which makes them the clearest case for a dedicated solar system in the whole category.

A solar gate opener setup is straightforward in principle: a panel sized to replace what the operator uses, a battery to carry it overnight and through weather, a charge controller between them, and a mount that survives the weather and stays aimed correctly. What makes it work or fail is the sizing, and the number that matters is cycles per day. A gate opening six times a day and one opening two hundred times at a commercial yard are entirely different systems, even with the same operator on the post.

Winter is the other thing to design around. Shorter days and a colder battery arrive in the same months, and a system sized to summer performance is a system that quits in January.

The same approach covers keypads, card readers, intercoms, cameras, Wi-Fi bridges and cellular equipment, sensors, tank monitors, and warning lights. Continuous small loads suit solar well, because the array only has to keep up on average rather than meet a peak.

Job Sites and Temporary Construction Power

A site needs power before permanent service exists. The usual answers are a temporary utility pole or a generator, and both have real costs: the pole means a utility application, a licensed installation, and a schedule you don't control, while the generator means fuel, refueling trips, maintenance, noise, and an engine running through the night to keep a camera and a light on.

Solar with battery storage handles the continuous low-level side of a site well. Security cameras, communications, site lighting, tool charging, laptops, and a small site office draw modestly and predictably, and a battery covers them overnight without an engine running. Where solar doesn't substitute is heavy intermittent draw. Welders, large compressors, and big saws pull far more on startup than their running rating suggests, and sizing a system around that's rarely economical.

The combination is usually the answer. Solar and batteries carry the base load continuously, and the generator runs only when heavy equipment does or when a long overcast stretch needs charging. Fuel consumption, engine hours, and refueling trips all drop, and the site is quiet the rest of the time.

A system built for one phase can generally be moved to the next, or to the next project, if it's specified with that in mind from the start. To be clear about scope: NAZ Solar Electric doesn't provide temporary utility service or set poles. Solar Panels for an ADU

An accessory dwelling unit sits in an awkward spot electrically. It's a full dwelling with a kitchen, bathroom, and climate control, but it's often placed at the back of a lot where extending the main panel means trenching, and sometimes where the existing service doesn't have the capacity to support it anyway. That second constraint catches people late, and it's the one that most often pushes an ADU toward its own system.

What the ADU runs decides everything else. A unit with gas cooking, gas water heating, and a mini-split is a modest electrical load and a manageable system. Make it all-electric with a resistance water heater, an electric range, and a dryer and the requirement multiplies. If the ADU is still being designed, appliance choices made now will do more for the system cost than anything decided later.

Grid-connected with solar offsetting consumption is the simplest configuration where service is available. Adding storage keeps selected circuits alive through an outage. Fully off-grid makes sense where connecting to the main service is the expensive part, and it needs enough storage and generation to carry the unit through a run of poor weather with an occupant inside.

Remote Buildings and Property

Cabins, workshops, storage buildings, and remote offices are sized the same way as an ADU: from a load list and the number of low-sun days the system has to carry. Running Solar, Batteries and a Generator Together

Solar and a generator aren't competing answers. They cover different problems, and a system that uses both gets more out of each.

Batteries handle everything continuous and modest with no engine running: cameras, lighting, communications, controls, tool charging, refrigeration. A generator handles the short bursts of heavy draw and the long overcast stretch where charging from the array alone falls behind. Left to run unmanaged, a generator burns fuel at low load for hours to serve a few hundred watts, which is the waste this arrangement removes.

NAZ Solar Electric supplies the equipment that ties the two together: automatic transfer switches, automatic generator start modules, and the wiring adapters between them. We do not sell generators. One compatibility note that matters before you buy anything: automatic generator start is inverter-specific, so whether a particular generator can be started automatically depends on the inverter architecture and on the generator's own start circuit. Confirm that pairing before ordering rather than after.

How We Size These Systems

Every system on this page is sized from a load list rather than a panel count, because there's no typical installation. A gate operator and a camera is a different exercise from a site trailer with tool chargers and a refrigerator, and the same array would be wrong for both.

Two numbers do most of the work: total energy used between charging periods, which sets the battery, and the largest startup surge, which sets the inverter. Send what you can of the following:

Can solar power an automatic gate?

Yes, and it's one of the most common uses for a small standalone system. A panel, battery, charge controller, and outdoor mount will run a gate operator indefinitely without trenching power to the entrance. Size it from cycles per day and from winter conditions rather than summer, since shorter days and colder batteries arrive together.

Do you sell solar gate openers?

How do I get temporary power to a job site?

Can a system be moved between job sites?

Yes, if it's specified for that from the start. How easily depends on array size, battery weight, and how the equipment is enclosed and mounted. Tell us up front that it has to move and the design will account for it.

Can solar power an ADU?

Yes, and how large a system depends almost entirely on the appliances. Gas cooking and water heating with a mini-split is a modest load. All-electric with a resistance water heater, electric range, and dryer is several times that. If the ADU is still in design, appliance choices will affect system cost more than anything decided later.

Does an ADU solar system need batteries?

Not if it's grid-connected and the goal is offsetting consumption. Batteries are needed for an off-grid ADU, and add value on a grid-connected one if you want selected circuits to stay live through an outage.

Can solar power remote cameras and communications equipment?

Yes. Cameras, Wi-Fi bridges, cellular equipment, sensors, and telemetry draw small continuous amounts, which suits a standalone solar system well. We supply the power system rather than the cameras or radios themselves.

Can a solar system start my generator automatically?

With the right equipment, yes. We supply automatic transfer switches, automatic generator start modules, and the wiring adapters. Auto start is inverter-specific, so whether a particular generator works depends on the inverter architecture and the generator's start circuit. Confirm that pairing before ordering.
