Commercial Solar System Design
Most people arriving here have a building and a rough idea of what they want, not a component list. Commercial solar system design is the work of turning the first into the second, and it's what our engineers do before any equipment gets quoted.
Commercial PV system design usually covers:
- Load analysis. What the building actually consumes across a year, what its peak demand is, and which loads have to keep running if the utility doesn't.
- Service and voltage review. Single or three phase, service voltage, main panel capacity, and whether there's room for what you're adding.
- Array layout. Rooftop or ground, orientation, string sizing against the inverter's MPPT range, and shading.
- Component compatibility. Confirming the inverter, storage, monitoring, and rapid shutdown equipment work as a system.
- A specification you can use. An equipment list and technical requirements you can hand to a contractor or put out to competitive bid, so the proposals you get back are comparable.
Design assistance is provided for systems purchased from NAZ Solar Electric. To be clear about scope: we do not install, and we do not analyze utility tariffs or billing data. We supply the equipment, the engineering behind it, and support for the installing contractor through commissioning.
Start With the Building's Load
The most expensive mistake in a commercial project is sizing the array before anyone has measured what the building uses. Peak demand, duty cycles on refrigeration and pumps, and motor starting current all change the answer, and none of them appear on a square-footage estimate. Starting current in particular drives inverter selection more than total kilowatt-hours do.

Commercial & Industrial Solar Questions
What makes commercial solar equipment different from residential?
Mostly service type and scale. Commercial buildings are frequently on three-phase power at 208V, 277V, or 480V, where homes are single or split phase at 120/240V. That changes the inverter entirely. Commercial equipment also tends to be built for higher continuous output, larger string counts, and monitoring that reports to a facilities team rather than a phone app.
Do you carry three-phase solar inverters?

Do you install commercial solar systems?
No. NAZ Solar Electric is a solar equipment distributor and system design resource. We supply the equipment and the engineering behind it and support the installing contractor through commissioning. If you don't have one lined up, let us know where you are. We may have installers who work in your area.
Can you provide a specification for a competitive bid?
Yes, and public agencies and districts that have to bid competitively often find this the most useful thing we do. A bid needs a specification before it goes out, and we can help build the equipment list and technical requirements so the proposals you receive back are comparable rather than five different systems.
Will a commercial grid-tie system run my building during an outage?
Not on its own. Grid-tie inverters are required to shut down when the utility goes down so they can't backfeed a line crews may be working on. Keeping a building running takes battery storage, a grid-interactive or multi-mode inverter, and a critical-load panel carrying only the circuits that have to stay on.
Can a commercial system be expanded later?
Often, and it's far easier when it's planned up front, because inverter capacity and battery architecture set the ceiling. If you expect to add capacity or loads, say so during sizing so the initial configuration leaves you room.
